We have several that come in groups; however, they will also pair off males and females. The females are the duller color and the males have the red. Despite the dull color of the females, their pattern is still quite lovely. As of fall I still have not counted them but when they are silent or absent from the feeder we are sure that a Hawk is around.

November 2019 We have noticed an outbreak of Avian Pox if you look closely you can see the bumps on the legs and beak below (it tends to go on the non-feathered part of the birds. Hopefully the lower temperatures will kill the bugs that carry this and the areas will heal.
