The male House Sparrow is the one with the black spot that looks a little like a beard. The female House Sparrow is the one to the left. She is varied colors of brown with a lighter stripe by the eye.

We first saw the House Sparrows in March of 2019. AT first we thought they didn't come very often but all of a sudden the parents and the fledglings would all show up one day and it would be clear why the parents' visits were sporadic. As of 2020 they come every spring and leave in fall. When they are here they come daily multiple times. The Chipping sparrows take their place fall through winter. This year I have not counted as there are quite a few.

They come daily and will eat the seed but in spring their favorite is the mealworms. It is funny because they are very brave and will either take on the bigger birds or even sneak in on the side while the bigger birds are eating.
