This is one of our newest birds to the backyard in 2020. He has only come once, early one morning in June. Abby thinks we have seen him before many months ago and I think she is probably right but I haven't found notes yet. Anyway, he was very quick and liked to dart into the leaves.

He appeared to be larger than the Brown-headed Nuthatch . His coloring and size could easily be mistaken for one of newer warblers, the Black and White Warbler which visits in the winter months. This nuthatch has a distinctive thick dark stripe down the back of its head which makes it stand apart. When he visits again we will get more pictures.
