Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker

Sphyrapicus varius

Psalm 104:16-17, The trees of the Lord are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted; Where the birds make their nests

They do exist!  LOL I do realize this was an insult in my 80s era!  I really like these.  They only come for three and four days at a time then we don't see him for awhile.  It is my opinion, yet unsubstantiated, that this is one the God sends us from the "preserve" located 4 miles away.

They were here through April 2019 then gone then back as of Nov 2019.  This year when they returned  the Red Bellied WP seems especially annoyed at their appearance and tends to chase them away after a few minutes.    Thankfully they were undaunted and returned back in 2020 until late spring.

Both a male and female have visited but in 2019 we had a fledge as well.  Most of the pictures we have is of the male.
