HUNTINGTON BEACH STATE PARK |
JUNE 2020
Our birding group visits HBSP a few times a year. I was told by a bird group member that earlier in the week Roseate Spoonbills were visiting (as they are apt to do). We had not seen previously so we took a few hours and visited; though not a scheduled bird trip. We saw Anhingas (Snake Bird), Great Egrets, Roseate Spoonbills fledgling/juveniles and adults, Red-winged Blackbird, Swallows, Wood Storks, and as in other times Ospreys (one with a fish in talons). When we arrived it was very cloudly but over the course of our visit, the sun was going behind and peaking out of the clouds.
The Roseate Spoonbill juveniles have dark eyes and feathers all over their head. The adults have the red eyes and their feathers stop at the end of the neck leaving a nonfeathered head.
😃Disclaimer We are birders that are new to photography; therefore not all of our pics are outstanding. This is especially true in the case of the very fast Swallows, but we were taken with these little guys, so we had to attempt to get some pics to share with you.

JANUARY VISIT
Myrtle Beach Birdwatchers were there a little bit shy of two hours in the afternoon ending about an hour before sunset. We were pleased to see some wonderful birds: American Red-start, Pied-billed Grebe, Common Yellow-throat (warbler), Common Gallinule, Snowy Egret, Wood Stork, White Ibis, Pine Warbler, Black and White Warbler, Great Egret, Black-Crowned Night Heron, Tri-Colored Heron, Titmouse, Cardinal, Brown Thrasher, Tern, and a few Ospreys. One Osprey was across the marsh with a fish dinner that an Egret tried to take away. Later on, an smaller Osprey flew over our heads with a fish and landed in a nearby tree feasting on his fish dinner of course by that time we were losing the light for pics; nonetheless, a great experience.
ALL PICTURES ON THIS SITE WERE TAKEN ONLY BY ABBY, CJ OR ME. WE ARE USUALLY BIRDING EVERYDAY BUT ARE ALSO USUALLY BEHIND UPLOADING PICTURES.
