CJ kept waiting to see these at our nest. It wasn't until July of 2020 that he and Abby spotted a pair with a fledge a few streets over in our neighborhood. (They did not have a camera at the time and came home a little annoyed).
|
A few days later we spotted them near enough to our nest to view better. Interestingly, it was the same day and time an Osprey flew very close to our carrying his catch. I think theses raptors sudden appearance threw him "off his game," giving us a chance to capture great pics of him. After that day we have seen the Swallow-Tails every day since.

They do not get near enough that I am concerned for the nestlings, we still have, but they are near enough that we can get a decent look though not a fantastic pic. These birds spend most of their time in the air during the day and the adults will eat in flight. This is what we think this one is doing in this picture.

They often will soar in the air so high you can barely see them; hence, the having to zoom way in on the pics we take.
