Sunrise bird trip with a quick stop at Russell Burgess Coastal Preserve
Pictures not as good as sometimes as we had trouble with the light but we were blessed with an absolute perfect morning otherwise. With a clear sky, calm breeze and colder temperatures we had a glorious time in touch with nature and saw lots of bird activity. Always amazed at the the birds we were able to see in an hour and half, which included: Tri-colored and Blue Herons, Terns, Cormorants, Gulls, Egrets, Osprey, Belted Kingfisher, Warblers, Woodpecker plus more. PLUS we also saw a Whimbrel, Northern Harrier (picture is not great but appears to have a tag on it), and possible Juvenile Eagle. Additionally, on the way home, mixed in with some decoy swans we saw a Red-Tailed Hawk.
SUNSET BIRD WALK
The Bird group visited this beautiful area for a little over an hour around sunset ...6:30-7:45 pm. Beautifully peaceful setting and saw: Green Heron, flock of Black Skimmers, Osprey, flock of Greater Yellow-legs, and a Belted Kingfisher to name a few (also saw some gulls, Egret, and Anhinga not pictured). The two members were walking ahead of the group and saw a red fox before it heard rest of group and darted off. So definitely a great spot. So proud of CJ he identified the Kingfisher immediately from the picture without zooming in to look (I wasn't even sure until I zoomed in at home on the computer and double checked my guide). He is definitely a bird nerd and may be even more then me at this point.
